61,000 Ballots Now in Voters’ Hands

As of today, the 61,000 ballots that were delayed by one week are in voters’ hands.

“I want to thank the voters of Adams County who called and emailed my office asking about their ballots. Because of their concern, we were able to discover this error and correct it as soon as possible,” says Stan Martin, Adams County Clerk and Recorder. “Our ballot-tracking system indicated ballots were going out each day, so the voters raising awareness helped us address this issue more quickly.”

“As promised, we did get to the bottom of why those 61,000 ballots were delayed, and you can read our full statement with the outline of those facts on our website,” Martin adds. “It was an unfortunate series of events that led to the delay, but my team, the Secretary of State’s office, K&H Printers, and USPS all worked diligently to remedy the situation.”

Because of this delay, we’re working with K&H to make the necessary improvements to ensure this does not happen again.

Likewise, Secretary of State Wayne Williams and his team are working closely with USPS leadership to improve the ballot-shipping process. Their recent letter to Gregory Graves, USPS Vice President, Area Operations – Western Area, details process improvements that will benefit all counties and voters in Colorado.

“Being a mail ballot state, it’s imperative that we have good communication and trusting relationships with our partners moving forward,” Martin shares.

Throughout this process, the Elections team and their judges have been processing all of the returned ballots and kept everything running smoothly.

If voters do not receive a ballot by today (Oct. 26), they can contact the Elections Department at 720.523.6500 or [email protected] and have a replacement sent. Voters can also visit any of our early voting Voter Service and Polling Centers (VSPCs) or two-day VSPCs and be issued a new ballot. (See below for a link to VSPC locations, dates, and hours.)

For voters who have completed their ballots, there are multiple ways they can return those:

There are currently eight Voter Service and Polling Centers (VSPCs) open—eight more will open on Monday, Nov. 5—and twenty-two 24-hour Drop Boxes conveniently located across the county where voters can return their voted ballots for free.

Governor Polis Orders Flags Lowered to Honor 9/11 Anniversary

Governor Polis ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide on Monday, September 11, 2023, from sunrise to sunset to honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and also in recognition of Patriot Day, which was designated by Congress in 2001.  

President Biden issued A Proclamation on Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, 2023, and ordered flags lowered to half-staff. The full text is below:

Adams County Health Department Reports First Death of the Season from West Nile Virus Infection

Adams County Health Department (ACHD) officials confirmed the first death from West Nile virus, an adult resident, within the county this year.

West Nile virus is spread to people through the bite of infected mosquitoes. Most infected with the virus do not have symptoms. However, one in five could develop flu-like symptoms, which typically begin two to 14 days after exposure. Serious, potentially deadly neurologic illness occurs in fewer than one in 100 infected people.

Deputy County Manager Chris Kline Credentialed by International Local Government Management Organization

Chris Kline, Deputy County Manager of Adams County, recently received the Credentialed Manager designation from ICMA, the International City/County Management Association. Kline is one of over 1,300 local government management professionals currently credentialed through the ICMA Voluntary Credentialing Program, and the third credentialed leader currently serving within Adams County government.

Adams County Health Department and Human Services Department Working Together to Prevent Residents From Losing Health Insurance

After more than a three-year pause, the Department of Health Care Policy & Financing (HCPF) has resumed the standard eligibility renewal and disenrollment process for Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program) and Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+). The priority for the Adams County Health Department  (ACHD) and Adams County Human Services Department (ACHS) is to keep residents covered and to connect disenrolling members to affordable health coverage.
