Highway Wall Repairs

The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor partner, Hamilton Construction Company, will soon begin repairing damaged retaining and sound walls at nine locations throughout the Denver metropolitan area. Repairs range from replacing damaged blocks to culvert cleaning to concrete patching. The most extensive work will occur at Interstate 70 / Carr Street, the Regional Transportation District Nine Mile Station, and US Highway 287 / Emma Street.

Starting in early February, crews will begin work on two mechanically-stabilized earth (MSE) retaining walls along I-70 near the Carr Street underpass west of the I-70 / Wadsworth Boulevard interchange. Crews will repair failing sections of the MSE wall, clean drainage inlets and perform crack sealing operations. Most of the work will be performed from Carr Street, 48th Avenue and the north I-70 frontage road with daytime, intermittent single lane closures and flagger traffic control as needed.

Motorists should expect short-term traffic impacts near each of the following locations between February and June.

  • I-70 / Carr Street (two sites)
  • I-25 / 76th Avenue
  • US 36 / Broadway
  • I-25 / Broadway
  • Parker Road / Hampden Avenue
  • RTD Nine Mile Station
  • I-25 / University Boulevard
  • I-225 / Parker Road
  • US 287 / Emma Street (two sites)

The project website provides the latest information, including traffic impacts, for each location. Each wall repair will take approximately one to three weeks depending on the level of damage and needed repairs. All work is weather-dependent and the schedule is subject to change.
