Tri-County Health Department is issuing a public health order (public health order-Spanish) to limit public and private gatherings in Adams County in an attempt to reduce the recent surge in cases and thereby protect both the public’s health and the economy. Contact tracing and case investigation have revealed that many people who have tested positive for COVID-19 have attended public or private gatherings.
As of Oct. 15, 2020, Adams County has an incidence rate of 313/100,000 population. Adams County has been beyond the State’s threshold for level 2 of Safer at Home since Sept. 28. TCHD hopes this order will pull Adams County back within the limits of level 2 by reducing the number of COVID-19 cases. The public health order will enact the following:
- Spectators are prohibited at Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) sanctioned sporting events.
- Spectators are prohibited from adult recreational and league sports.
- Organized recreational and league youth sports are limited to 25 people per field, including spectators. Coaches and referees are excluded from the 25 person capacity limit.
- Personal indoor gatherings are limited to no more than 5 individuals. Outdoor personal gatherings are limited to no more than 10 individuals. Life rite ceremonies are excluded. Nothing in this order prohibits the gathering of members living in the same household.
- All alcohol beverage sales must cease at 10 p.m.
The order will go into effect today, Oct. 16, 2020, at 9 p.m. and remain in effect until Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020, at 11:59 p.m. unless it is extended.
“This emergency public health order is an attempt to lower the increasing cases of COVID-19 to protect the health of our residents and prevent serious outcomes such as hospitalizations and death. Reducing our caseload will also help prevent the state placing more restrictive measures on Adams County which could impact community activities such as businesses, houses of worship, and schools,” said John M. Douglas, Jr., MD, Executive Director of Tri-County Health Department. “I know it gets old and that everyone has COVID fatigue, but if we can hang together and help reduce transmission in our community, I am confident that there will be light at the end of the tunnel as new vaccines become available. This is just not the time to let our guard down.”
To reduce the spread of COVID, TCHD is also working with other stakeholders that are not impacted by the current public health order, but could be impacted if the State moves the county to a more restrictive level.
“We are counting on our residents to do their part in keeping each other healthy and safe. This extra effort should help reduce our cases, which will keep our schools and businesses open,” said Emma Pinter, Adams County Commissioner and Board Chair. “It’s extremely challenging right now for everyone, but we must continue to wear masks, and refrain from gatherings large and small. To remain vigilant in the short term will benefit us all in the long run.”
High risk individuals are strongly advised to continue staying at home to the greatest extent possible, only interacting with household members and only leaving for essential activities.
In addition, everyone should continue to take these disease prevention actions:
- Wear a mask.
- Stay at least six feet away from others.
- Stay home if you are sick except to get medical care.
- Get tested if you develop an illness that could be COVID-19.
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.
- If you do test positive, cooperate with public health workers when they contact you.

Clear Creek Corridor Master Plan Community Events
Clear Creek runs approximately seven miles through southwest Adams County from Sheridan Blvd. to the South Platte River Confluence. Adams County currently owns approximately 178 acres of open space adjacent to Clear Creek. A regional trail and several trail access points have been developed through this corridor, but currently few other amenities are located along the corridor.

Suncor to Conduct Live Fire Training
NOTICE: Suncor ERT will conduct live fire training on Thursday, April 20, from approximately 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The live fire training will be conducted at the Plant 1 Fire Training grounds. During the training, there will likely be large flames and thick smoke produced. In the event of an actual emergency, all ERT training will cease and proper alarms will be sounded. Have Yard or Garden Questions? Ask a Master Gardener
The Colorado State University (CSU) Extension Master Gardeners in Adams County are ready to answer your home yard and garden questions. Master Gardeners are in the office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from April through October, and can be found at community gardens and garden centers throughout the season. Master Gardeners can answer questions on lawns, vegetable gardens, trees, houseplants, etc. Specially trained Master Gardeners from our Tree Team are also available for home visits to assess tree health for a small fee.

CDOT Announces Lane and Ramp Closures on Westbound I-76 near US Highway 85
On Monday night, April 17, motorists should expect lane and ramp closures on westbound Interstate 76 near US Highway 85 while crews shift travel lanes onto new permanent pavement placed during Phase 1 of the I-76 at US 85 reconstruction project. The southbound US 85 direct access to westbound I-76 will be closed at 104th Avenue from 9 p.m. on Monday, April 17, until 5 a.m. Tuesday, April 18. A temporary full closure is necessary to move traffic onto the new alignment. Crews will also install an overhead sign structure over southbound US 85 during the full closure.

Joining Vision and Action will be in our communities and at various locations collecting feedback, in addition to conducting a series of focus groups. Board of Commissioners Accepts County Manager’s Resignation
The Adams County Board of Commissioners accepted the resignation of County Manager Todd Leopold on Tuesday, April 11. Leopold was originally hired in 2012 as a deputy county administrator before accepting the county manager position in 2013.

County Sets Seven Town Hall Meetings for 2017
The Adams County Board of Commissioners has set dates for seven town hall meetings, including two telephone town halls, in 2017. The meetings are open to all county residents.
The first of the meetings will be a telephone town hall on Tuesday, April 11, at 7 p.m. Visit www.adcogov.org/townhall to sign up to receive a call to join the town hall meeting when it begins. During the call, participants can engage commissioners with questions or simply listen to the conversation while taking part in poll questions.

Adams County Director Honored by Society of Women Engineers
Jeff Maxwell, Adams County Transportation director, was honored on a national level by the Society of Women Engineers, receiving their Integrity Award for Male Supporter of the Year. In addition to increasing the number of women engineers being hired, Maxwell appointed the county’s first female engineering manager who oversees a team of women engineers who manage the county’s Transportation Capital Improvement Program.
