Please join  us for Adams County’s Senior Action Event, which provides direct access and assistance in applying to programs targeted at seniors, on Thursday, Oct. 25, 1-4 p.m., at the Human Services Center, Room Apple B. Attendees will work with program representatives from PEAK and others, including cash assistance programs, to learn more and to receive assistance in filling out the appropriate paperwork. Additional resources for seniors during this event include navigating transportation systems, adult day services, Meals On Wheels, vision loss adaptation, and home care options.

All lanes on 144th Ave.at Highway 85 and the railroad tracks will be closed until approximately 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10. All lanes on Bromley Rd. at the railroad crossing east of Highway 85 will be closed from 6 a.m. to approximately 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13. Detour route signs will direct traffic around all construction sites, but please plan to take alternate routes on these days to avoid delays.

Take advantage of two adoption specials happening at the Adams County Animal Shelter this week and next. Happening now through Sunday, Oct. 14, is a $10 cat special on cats six months and older. There will also be an Adopt a Shelter Dog Month special for 50% off dogs six months and older from Monday, Oct. 15, through Friday, Oct. 19. As part of the design for the Central 70 Project, the York Street on-ramp to westbound I-70 will permanently close overnight on Oct. 14. Closure of this ramp allows construction crews to build the new Union Pacific Railroad Bridge and the final design of I-70. Motorists can use 46th Avenue to travel east to Steele Street/Vasquez Boulevard, turn left on Steele Street and access westbound I-70 from the Steele Street/Vasquez Boulevard on-ramp.

Notice: Suncor ERT will be conducting live fire training on Thursday, Oct. 4, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Suncor Fire Training Center. During the training there will likely be large flames and thick smoke produced. In the event of an actual emergency, we will cease all ERT training and proper alarms will be sounded. Small nonfarm businesses in eight Colorado counties and neighboring counties in Nebraska are now eligible to apply for low‑interest federal disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration, announced Director Tanya N. Garfield of SBA’s Disaster Field Operations Center-West. These loans offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by hail, high winds, rain and tornadoes in the following primary counties that occurred July 28-29, 2018.

The Colorado Master Gardener program in Adams County is accepting applications for Spring 2019 classes held on Fridays, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., from Feb. 1-April 13. Email Cassey Anderson for an application or more information. Deadline to apply is Monday, Oct. 22.

Congratulations to the 2019 Adams County Fair Lady-in-Waiting, Mandy McCormick. This is our first sister-sister royalty, as Mandy's sister, Danielle McCormick, was the 2012 Adams County Fair Queen.
