Diversity and Inclusion

The Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Division is responsible for advising, developing, administering, and executing a variety of duties that promote diversity within the county. We are committed to supporting a work environment that is inclusive.

The D&I Division defines diversity as the condition of having or being composed of differing elements, values, experiences, knowledge, and strengths, acknowledging each individual, and recognizing their individuality.

The D&I Division defines inclusivity as the purposeful intent to embrace all people, including those who might be otherwise excluded or marginalized by race, gender identity, sexual orientation, handicap, disability, etc. The goal of inclusivity is to create a work environment and services that are equitable and understanding.

Adams County is implementing a three step process to create a more diverse and inclusive work environment:

  1. We will provide cultural humility training to all county employees to help support understanding of history, trauma, and self-identification.
  2. We will interview employees regarding county cultural practices to gain a better understanding from the employee’s perspective.
  3. We will complete a county-wide cultural assessment that will help shape discussions to develop stronger Diversity & Inclusivity practices.

The Diversity and Inclusion Division is responsible for developing new initiatives to help Adams County move the dial on innovative individual and institutional cultural efforts.  This office also has oversight of American with Disabilities Act (ADA) discussions and responses.

Our goal is to create and support a systemic approach where people from every culture are respected, included, and valued.
