2016 Leaf Collection Event
In honor of America Recycles Day, Adams County and the cities of Brighton and Westminster are hosting a free leaf collection event for residents to drop off fallen leaves.
Residents may recycle collected leaves at two locations, and they are encouraged to use large leaf paper bags available at Home Depot, Ace and garden stores. Collected leaves will be recycled into compost.

Rain Barrel Workshops
Sustainable Adams County has partnered with CSU Extension to educate Adams County residents on rainwater collection systems. This is an opportunity for residents to learn the facts, become familiar with the environmental benefits of rain harvesting, and leave armed with the tools and knowledge to become a successful contributor to conservation in Adams County. The $50 registration fee covers the educational workshop and a free rain barrel kit. A limited number of registrations are available; one rain barrel per household will be distributed.

County Offices Closed Oct. 10
Adams County government offices will be closed on Monday, Oct. 10, in observance of Columbus Day. Normal business hours will resume on Tuesday, Oct. 11. -
I-76 construction at US 85 starts in October
In early October, CDOT and contractor partner, Villalobos Concrete Inc., will begin a reconstruction project at the Interstate 76 and US Highway 85 interchange. The project will improve the geometry of the westbound I-76 curve where the interstate joins southbound US 85. This transition area will be upgraded to current design standards to improve safety and traffic flow. An additional travel lane from southbound US 85 to 96th Avenue will be built with the project. Portions of I-76 will also be replaced with new concrete pavement.

Gov. Hickenlooper Orders Flags Lowered to Honor Shimon Peres, Former President and Prime Minister of Israel
Gov. John Hickenlooper ordered flags be lowered to half-staff to honor the memory of former President and Prime Minister of Israel, Shimon Peres, and as proclaimed by President Barack Obama. Flags should be flown at half-staff until sunset on Friday, September 30, 2016.

Welby Heritage Foundation Hosting Neighborhood Meeting
The Welby Heritage Foundation is hosting a neighborhood meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 6-7:30 p.m. at the Welby Montessori School, 1200 E. 78th Ave., Denver. Meet your neighbors and join the Welby Heritage Foundation for a community night geared toward neighborhood information and collaboration.

Free Paint Drop-Off Event
Sustainable Adams County and the City of Thornton are hosting a free paint drop-off event for local households and businesses on Saturday, Oct. 15, 9 a.m.- 1 pm., at the Adams County Regional Park, 9755 Henderson Rd., Brighton. Citizens may bring most types of paint, stain and varnish.

Traffic Advisory - Ramp closure on westbound I-70 to southbound I-225
The Colorado Department of Transportation reported that the ramp leading from westbound Interstate 70 to southbound Interstate 225 will be closed from 10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, until 5 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 19. Closures are necessary so crews can install three 44-foot modular joints that each must be installed in one piece across the width of the bridge.Traffic is advised to use alternate routes.
