Adams County Celebrates National Adoption Day
Six adoptions to be finalized at special celebration
In celebration of National Adoption Day on Saturday, Nov. 19, the Adams County Board of Commissioners, Human Services Department, and the 17th Judicial District will host a special celebration at the Adams County Justice Center, 1100 Judicial Center Dr., Brighton, 9–11 a.m., to finalize six adoptions for Adams County children and their new families.

Gov. Hickenlooper Orders Flags Lowered Monday
Gov. John Hickenlooper ordered flags lowered to half-staff on Monday, Nov. 7, on all public buildings statewide in memory of Cimarron Hills Firefighter Jermaine Frye. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset.

Floodplain Management Program Reduces Yearly Insurance Costs for Residents
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has given the Adams County Floodplain Management program a Class 9 Community Rating System (CRS) in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). As a result, Adams County residents and businesses are now eligible to receive a five percent discount on flood insurance.

Eastbound I-76 at 96th Ave. to Close Overnight Sunday
Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - Adams County – Starting at 11 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30, crews will temporarily close eastbound Interstate 76 between 96th Avenue and 104th Avenue to all traffic overnight in order to remove an overhead sign structure.

Revised Ordinance for Animal Management
The Community and Economic Development department is introducing modified language to update and improve the county's Animal Management ordinance. As with the current policy, and if approved, these modifications will only impact residents in unincorporated Adams County. Residents who live in a municipality should continue to consult the policies in their city or town. These proposed changes will be presented to the Board of County Commissioners during public hearing on November 15 at 9:30 a.m. at the Government Center in Brighton.

Adams County Hires New Fair and Special Event Manager
The Adams County Parks and Open Space Department hired Casandra Bossingham as the new fair and special event manager. In this position, Bossingham will plan and implement large-scale events as well as manage the parks facilities within Adams County Regional Park.

FREE Legal Clinic at the Adams County Justice Center
The 17th Judicial District (Adams and Broomfield Counties) and 17th Judicial District Access to Justice Committee is offering a free legal clinic, with attorneys available to answer questions on various areas of law, at the Adams County Justice Center on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016.

Power Outage Causes Hazmat Response in Commerce City
A power outage around noon on Friday at the Suncor plant in Commerce City triggered an automatic shutdown during which dark smoke was released from the plant.
Adams County Sheriff, South Adams County Fire Department, Commerce City Police, the Denver Fire Department, and other agencies assisted in the situation. Power was restored around 2:30 p.m.
