Jahna Rae

None But the Rain
Paintings by artist Jahna Rae

Exhibition Date: Winter 2024
The women in Jahna Rae’s portraits look to a space beyond the viewer–to the future. Jahna’s paintings, with their bold colors ablaze with gold leaf, envision a radiant future created through communal healing both personal and cultural. Jahna works out of Denver and her paintings, murals, and illustrations can be seen throughout Colorado including Trupp Park in Bennett.

Poetry and music inspire Jahna’s work. Her painting, Blossomed, responds to a new work by Adams County Poet Laureate Kerrie Joy written to encourage Black People to continue to step into full bloom and is part of an augmented reality installation. Jahna’s portrait subjects are blooming, and each painting depicts a different stage of that journey.

About Jahna Rae

Cal Duran

Artist Jahna Rae’s passion for art began in early childhood, inspired by her father, who was also an artist. Her first memories of creating date back to when she was two years old, covered in paint outside her home in Panama City, Panama.

Inspired by the people and places she traveled to as a kid in a military household, Rae developed an interest in portraiture and spirituality as her artistic practice grew. She attended the Academy of Art University in San Francisco where she studied Illustration. Rae moved to Denver, Colorado where she was selected to participate in her first ever mural festival in 2021, thus officially beginning her career as an artist.
