What Does Planning & Development Do?

The Planning & Development Division coordinates efforts and reviews related to development projects. This includes development engineering, land use and zoning administration, building permitting and inspection. The division is primarily responsible for:

  • Ensuring that land uses within the unincorporated portions of the county are developed in compliance with the county’s adopted codes and regulations
  • Reviewing and issuing development permits, land use permits, and a variety of other specialized permits
  • Administering the county’s floodplain regulations
  • Administering, updating, and maintaining the Adams County Development Standards & Regulations

The land use code guides how property is used and developed in unincorporated Adams County. It impacts housing, environment, sustainability, landscaping, commerical and industrial activities, process, governance, and more.
The code is being updated to make it easier for staff and the public to use.
