Pecos Street Widening Project

Project Overview

Adams County in cooperation with Hamon Infrastructure are set to begin a road widening project on Pecos Street between 52nd Avenue and 58th Avenue at the beginning of October. The current single through-lane road will be expanded to two through-lanes of travel in both directions, totaling four lanes by the end of the project. In addition to widening operations, crews will be upgrading and relocating utilities, installing new signals at 52nd and 54th Avenue, and improving medians, turn-lanes, curb and gutters, and concrete within the project zone. Work will impact north and southbound lanes and is projected to be completed in the fall of 2024. These improvements are expected to reduce traffic congestion, create safer and more accessible travel paths for multimodal users and enhance the functionality of several intersection locations.

  • The project will be broken into four phases:

    • Phase II - January through March 2024: Construction of the east side of Pecos Street.
    • Phase III - April through July 2024: Median and turn lane upgrades.

Upcoming Project Operations - Week of April 29

  • Working hours will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Drivers can expect continued traffic realignments throughout the week as part of Phase I of the project’s widening operations. Phase I includes a 24/7 closure of the west side of the roadway, with lanes shifting to the east side. One through-lane of traffic will remain open in both directions.
  • There will continue to be a right turn-lane closure at the corner of 56th Avenue and Pecos Street with two-way traffic remaining open throughout the week.
  • The driveway to the businesses on the west side of Pecos Street at 56th Avenue will be closed at the beginning of the week to pour back sidewalk concrete. Access to the parking lot will remain open off of 56th Avenue during this time. The project team anticipates the Pecos Street entrance will reopen toward the end of the week.
  • A full closure at the 52nd Place and Pecos Street intersection will continue through this week, remaining in effect for 24 hours a day. To reach 52nd Pl from the west side, cars will be detoured south to 52nd Avenue, west to Tejon Street, and north toward 52nd Place. Please follow all signage on-site and see the detour map below for additional navigation information. All business access will remain open during the closure. Please use the Pecos Street driveways to enter and exit the C&K Gas Station and Sound Town parking lots during this time.
  • The project team does not anticipate significant delays associated with the upcoming closures, however drivers are encouraged to account for up to 10 minutes of extra travel time.
  • Please exercise extreme caution when traveling through the work zone. Slow down, watch for workers and equipment and leave plenty of space between vehicles.
  • Due to unexpected issues related to underground utility relocations within the work zone, some delays to the project schedule are anticipated. The project team thanks you for your continued patience.

All schedules are dependent on weather and resource availability and are subject to change.
