Adams County Safety Study
Through development of a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, Adams County is creating a community informed vision for improving transportation safety. The County is partnering with several agencies on this effort including City of Arvada, City of Aurora, City of Brighton, City of Commerce City, City of Federal Heights, City of Northglenn and City of Westminster. In addition, the County is coordinating with the City of Thornton and Town of Bennett on their concurrent and similar efforts.
Through the process, a prioritized set of safety improvement projects tailored to the County’s unique needs, concerns, and opportunities will be identified. Your input and feedback are key to informing the project analyses, the project team’s understanding of where concerns exist, and optimal solutions for addressing crash hot spots and areas of higher risk.

The figure above shows the location of Participating and Coordinating Agencies involved in the Countywide Plan. Because of current safety action planning efforts already underway in Thornton and Bennett, their role on the project is focused on data sharing and limited coordination.
To evaluate safety across all modes, the project will:
- Analyze the System: Analyze current safety conditions using crash data and understand potential areas of safety concerns using systemic data.
- Understand Impact: Identify where socio-economically disadvantaged populations exist and impacts on their transportation safety.
- Identify Projects: Identify projects that will improve safety.
- Identify Funding: Develop a strategy to identify and leverage funding opportunities for implementation of projects.
- Collaborate & Partner: Recognize transportation doesn’t stop at jurisdictional boundaries. A collaboration with Adams County and participating agencies will help understand priorities, concerns, and opportunities for the region.
