Electric Vehicles 101

An electric vehicle is powered entirely or partially by electricity, using one or more electric motors instead of an internal combustion engine.

There are two types of electric vehicles:

  • Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs): These run solely on electricity and have no gasoline engine.
  • Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs): These have both an electric motor and a gasoline engine, allowing for electric-only driving over short distances and gasoline use for longer trips.
