Adams County Animal Shelter/Adoption Center is Now Riverdale Animal Shelter

Last month, the Adams County Animal Shelter/Adoption Center moved to its new location and transitioned to Riverdale Animal Shelter (RAS). The shelter’s new address is 12155 Park Blvd., Brighton.

RAS is located at the south end of Riverdale Regional Park—on 120th Ave. and Park Blvd., between Hwy. 85 and Quebec St.

“The transition to Riverdale Animal Shelter is a key step in the completion of Riverdale Regional Park, a space centered around community and quality of life,” says Emma Pinter, Chair, Adams County Board of Commissioners. “This new space will allow us to better serve Adams County residents and their pets for many years to come.”

“The new shelter has an expanded health clinic; additional public parking; and a large, multi-purpose room which allows for more frequent public vaccination clinics, behavior support for new adopters, and education programs for our community,” says Raymond Gonzales, Adams County Manager. “It is a truly wonderful and unique building that shows our dedication to the people and animals who call Adams County home.”

The new building was completed in September 2020, and staff and animals were able to move in—with help from municipal partners—in early October.

“This is such an exciting move for the shelter staff and the animals in our care. This new space was designed with the humans and animals who share this building in mind,” says Stephanie Wilde, Director, Riverdale Animal Shelter. “Every feature, from the overall layout to features like our ‘catios.’ helps reduce stress for the animals. The private adoption rooms and separate entrances for adoption or lost and found pet support and other services, ensure privacy and respect for whichever emotions residents are feeling when they walk through our doors.”
