Adams County Veterans Memorial Grand Opening Ceremony
The long-awaited grand opening ceremony for the highly anticipated Adams County Veterans Memorial took place at Riverdale Regional Park today, May 29, marking a significant milestone in honoring the brave men and women who selflessly served our nation. Adams County Commissioners were joined by Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo, U.S. Navy Veteran Ken Jones who served on the USS Colorado during World War II, active-duty military, family and friends of veterans, and community members to celebrate this momentous event.
“This memorial is a reminder of the extraordinary sacrifices made by those who came before us, who serve now, and who will protect us in the future. It ignites a flame of valor and patriotism in the hearts of future generations. And it will be a beacon of hope, reminding us of the responsibility we bear to uphold the principles and freedoms upon which this great nation was built.,” said Steve O’Dorisio, Board of County Commissioners Chair. “And by incorporating public art elements into the project, we can enrich the experience and pride of our constituents who use these amenities.”
In addition to the near life-size replica of the USS Colorado, the memorial encompasses various elements, including marble monuments recognizing each branch of the military, sandblasted plaques of presidential quotes, a story wall detailing the life of a solider that were submitted by Adams County residents, and a concrete map in the entryway that pinpoints all veterans’ memorials within Adams County.
“The veterans memorial stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment of our community, a labor of love that has brought us together,” said Charles “Chaz” Tedesco, Adams County Commissioner. “From the initial stages of fundraising to the meticulous planning and construction, our journey has been one of collaboration and dedication. The completion of this memorial is a testament to the resilience and unwavering support of our community.”
The Adams County Veterans Memorial is situated in Riverdale Regional Park and is an architectural masterpiece designed to pay tribute to the valor and sacrifice of those who have defended our nation throughout history. A ceremonial ribbon-cutting followed by a flyover of F-16’s by the 120th Wing out of Buckley Space Force Base marked the official opening of the memorial.
