Adams County Wins NAHRO Award for Housing Initiatives
Adams County won the Colorado National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) Commissioners Award for work on Homes for Hope and 7401 Broadway, the former Child and Family Services Center. The Board of Commissioners recognized county staff involved at public hearing earlier today.
Homes for Hope provides emergency foster care services in a traditional home environment, serving approximately 8-10 children at a time. The county redeveloped two homes on land acquired through Open Space grants many years ago for this project.
“Homes for Hope is a major step forward in helping children in foster care grow up in a safe and supportive environment while they remain with or near their siblings and extended family,” said Board Chair Steve O’Dorisio. “This program is one of the first of its kind in the country and shows the importance Adams County places on the well-being of foster kids in our community.”
The 7401 Broadway site is a collaborative effort with Unison Housing Partners. The county donated its former Child and Family Services Center to be used as a new 116-unit, multi-family housing complex in unincorporated Adams County. This new development will help meet the needs of children aging out of foster care as well as provide more affordable housing in the county.
“We are so grateful to county staff and our partners at Unison for their dedication on this development,” said O’Dorisio. “In addition to the housing units, this complex will have incredible amenities to make its future residents feel even more at home.”
The Colorado Chapter of NAHRO is a membership-driven organization that provides professional development, advocacy, and networking opportunities for public housing and community development agencies as well as other individuals and organizations working to enhance the affordable housing industry and promote viable communities in Colorado.
Several representatives from Adams County, including Commissioners Charles “Chaz” Tedesco and Eva Henry, County Manager Ray Gonzales, Ric Reed, Sam Olson, and Gabe Rodriguez, along with Peter LiFari from Unison Housing Partners, accepted the award at NAHRO’s conference in Vail earlier in May.
