Today, the Adams County Board of Commissioners adopted the 2018 Riverdale Regional Park master plan and name after incorporating feedback from residents and community partners. The Adams County Parks & Open Space Department, in conjunction with a consultant team led by Design Workshop, have finalized a master plan and resolved a new name for the Adams County Regional Park & Fairgrounds that will now encompass more than 1,197 acres of land stretching from 120th Pkwy. and Riverdale Rd. to 136th Ave. and Brighton Rd.
The Riverdale Regional Park, and the accompanying master plan, will ensure stewardship of natural resources, meet recreational demands of a growing regional population, and leverage partnerships to expand the agricultural, scientific, and educational components that have been a staple at this location.
“A comprehensive study of the continued marketability and financial viability of the planned improvements was carefully considered with input from the community and stakeholders,” said Mary Hodge, chair of the Adams County Board of Commissioners. “The goal of this process is to meet and balance the needs of the Riverdale Regional Park clientele and visitors; looking to the future while respecting and celebrating the past.”
In 2018, Adams County will embark on Phase I of the plan, which includes the design of a 52,000 square-foot, multi-purpose facility to replace the indoor arena that was removed from the regional park in 2015. This facility will greatly enhance programming opportunities for all user groups and help augment the 4-H programming.
The master plan also includes the new 45,000-square-foot Riverdale Animal Shelter.
“This iconic area has served as a respite for people for more than 50 years,” said Nathan Mosley, Parks & Open Space director. “It contains an abundance of wildlife and provides a variety of recreational and educational opportunities that celebrate the Adams County culture and history.”

Governor Polis Orders Flags Lowered to Honor 9/11 Anniversary
Governor Polis ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide on Monday, September 11, 2023, from sunrise to sunset to honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and also in recognition of Patriot Day, which was designated by Congress in 2001.

Adams County Health Department Reports First Death of the Season from West Nile Virus Infection
Adams County Health Department (ACHD) officials confirmed the first death from West Nile virus, an adult resident, within the county this year.
West Nile virus is spread to people through the bite of infected mosquitoes. Most infected with the virus do not have symptoms. However, one in five could develop flu-like symptoms, which typically begin two to 14 days after exposure. Serious, potentially deadly neurologic illness occurs in fewer than one in 100 infected people.

Adams County Health Department and Human Services Department Working Together to Prevent Residents From Losing Health Insurance
After more than a three-year pause, the Department of Health Care Policy & Financing (HCPF) has resumed the standard eligibility renewal and disenrollment process for Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program) and Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+). The priority for the Adams County Health Department (ACHD) and Adams County Human Services Department (ACHS) is to keep residents covered and to connect disenrolling members to affordable health coverage.

Adams County Confirms First Human Case of West Nile Virus for 2023
Adams County Health Department (ACHD) officials confirmed the first human case of West Nile virus within the county this year. Additionally, West Nile virus has been found in mosquitoes within the county.
West Nile virus is most commonly spread to people by the bite of an infected mosquito. In Colorado, most human cases are reported in August and September. In 2021, Colorado had 175 reported human cases of West Nile virus, including 11 deaths.
