The Adams County Head Start team will be hosting the inaugural Family Health Institute on Friday, Nov. 8, 8 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Human Services Center Conference Center, 11860 Pecos St., Westminster. It will be a day of learning about health and nutrition for Adams County families. Discussions and learning sessions include:
- Building a healthy lunch for your family
- Taking time for your own self-care
- Getting more from your well child checks
- Talking to your doctor
- Home safety
- And much more

Public Works Department Recognized with Best in Colorado Award
The Adams County Public Works Department received a Best in Colorado award from the Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association (CAPA) in February. The department was recognized by the Adams County Board of Commissioners at public hearing today.
“The efforts of our hard-working Public Works staff often go unnoticed, and I’m thrilled they have received this statewide recognition,” said Steve O’Dorisio, chair of the Board of County Commissioners.
Adams County Receives GOCO Grant
Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) awarded Adams County with a $110,000 grant for a new play yard at Ricardo Flores Magon Academy. Ricardo Flores Magon Academy is in the process of building a new school, scheduled to open in Fall 2020. Currently, the academy is operating at the site of Berkeley Gardens Elementary School, which was built in 1906 and is in need of significant repairs. The school will use GOCO funds for a play yard at the new building, which will serve the academy’s students as well as the community as a whole.
SCFD Welcomes New Member of Board of Directors
Award-winning county manager will represent Adams County
Adams County Manager Raymond Gonzales joined the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District Board of Directors as the representative for Adams County.
Gonzales, who recently won the Colorado County Manager of the Year award from the Colorado City and County Management Association, officially join the board on January 24th. He was appointed to represent the county by the Adams County Board of County Commissioners.
Mayte Olague Named Adams County Employee of All Seasons
The Adams County Board of Commissioners announced Mayte Olague as Adams County Employee of All Seasons at the We Are Adams Recognition Luncheon on Feb. 27, 2019.
Adams County Approves Preliminary Plan for Affordable Housing Development
The Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved the rezoning, preliminary development plan, and preliminary plat for a 116-unit, multi-family housing development at 7401 Broadway in unincorporated Adams County at public hearing today.
Suncor to Conduct Fire Extinguisher Training
NOTICE: Suncor will conduct Fire Extinguisher Training on Thursday, Feb 14, at the Suncor Fire Training Center from 1 - 3 p.m. The training will be performed at the Plant 1 Fire Training Grounds. During the training sessions there will likely be flames and smoke produced. In the event of an actual emergency, all training will cease and proper alarms will be sounded. Gonzales Named City/County Manager of the Year
Adams County Manager Raymond Gonzales was named Colorado City/County Manager of the Year at the annual Colorado City and County Management Association (CCCMA) Annual Conference in Glenwood Springs. Gonzales is the first county manager to win the award.

The GRANDcares Project
The Adams County CSU Extension Program is partnering with the National Institute of Food and Agriculture and Grandparents Raising Grandchild CSU Extension to offer The GRANDcares Project. This six-week class is designed to introduce powerful tools for caregivers and grandfamilies to help manage stress, set goals, and communicate effectively. Join them for the kick-off meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 10 a.m.-noon, at Lutheran Center, 7375 Samuel Dr., Denver. Classes will be held in the same location at the same time every Wednesday from Feb.
