On Thursday, December 5, Suncor’s Commerce City refinery will conduct testing on one of its flare units in Plant 1. The work will begin at 8 a.m. and completed by approximately 6 p.m. As a result of this activity, increased flaring with potentially larger flames and smoke could occur from the flare stack. Additional updates will be provided if the refinery experiences increased flaring for an extended period of time.
Bryan Ostler Appointed Deputy County Manager; Terri Lautt Named Director of Human Resources
Bryan Ostler has been appointed deputy county manager of Community Services, overseeing external departments, including the Adams County Animal Shelter, Community and Economic Development, Front Range Airport, Human Services, Parks and Open Space, and Public Works.
Pete Mirelez Human Services Center Grand Opening
Today, Oct. 5, marked the grand opening ceremony for the Pete Mirelez Human Services Center in Adams County. More than 1,500 guests and employees gathered for the ceremony as Adams County Commissioners Eva J. Henry, Charles “Chaz” Tedesco, Steve O’Dorisio, Erik Hansen, and Mary Hodge, as well as the City of Westminster Mayor Herb Atchison, cut the official ribbon and dedicated the building to honor the late Pete Mirelez. The new 315,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility, located at 11860 Pecos St., brings together nearly 800 employees who serve more than 500 residents daily.
Adams County 2017 Snow Inspection Event
With winter around the corner, Adams County residents will soon be impacted by snow on county rounds. To ensure the safety of residents, Adams County Public Works will host its annual Snow Inspection Event on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 11 a.m.–2 p.m., at the fleet facility, 4955 E. 74th Ave., Commerce City.
Adams County Public Works maintains the entire roadway network throughout the county and prides itself on reliable and quality work to ensure the safety and readiness of personnel and equipment for the upcoming 2017–2018 snow season.

Gov. Hickenlooper Orders Flags Lowered to Honor the Victims of Las Vegas Attack
Gov. John Hickenlooper today ordered flags be lowered to half-staff immediately to honor the victims of the attack in Las Vegas and as proclaimed by President Donald Trump. Flags should be lowered until Friday, Oct. 6 at sunset.
Kristin Sullivan Named Director of Community & Economic Development Department
Kristin Sullivan has been named director of the Adams County Community & Economic Development Department.
Sullivan joined Adams County in 2010 and has held various positions including Planning Manager, Economic Development Manager, Legislative Liaison, and most recently, Deputy Director of Community & Economic Development. Sullivan holds a bachelor’s degree in geography from Colgate University and a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Colorado Denver.
Traffic Alert: Southbound US 85 Access to Westbound I-76 Closed Overnight on Sept. 28, Oct. 1 and Oct. 2
On Thursday, Sept. 28 and two consecutive nights next week (Sunday, Oct. 1 and Monday, Oct. 2), motorists should expect lane and ramp closures on westbound Interstate 76 near US Highway 85 while crews complete asphalt paving and sign panel placement. The southbound US 85 direct access to westbound I-76 will be closed at 104th Avenue from 9 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. on all three nights.
Treasurer’s New Satellite Office
The Adams County Treasurer’s Office has a new satellite office located at the Adams County Human Services Center, 11860 Pecos St., Westminster. Hours of operation are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m.–5 p.m. Services include property tax collection for all property classifications, senior exemption and property tax deferral assistance, mobile home ownership transfers and relocation services, and a free income tax preparation program for income-qualifying residents (Jan.–April).
Town Hall Meeting - Bennett
The Adams County Board of Commissioners will host a town hall meeting open to all county residents on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 6:30–8 p.m. at Bennett Senior High School, 610 7th St. Engage with the commissioners and county departments and listen to the conversations in your community.
