Traffic Alert: Night Closures on I-70 and I-25
Overhead sign structure removal requires the full closure of westbound Interstate 70 at Federal Boulevard (exit 272) on Sunday, June 18, starting at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, June 19, in time for the morning commute. Northbound I-25 will be closed overnight on Monday, June 19, at Colfax Avenue (exit 210A) from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 20. Single and double lane closures will begin as early as 8 p.m. in advance of planned full highway closures at 11 p.m.
Northbound I-25 off-ramps to 23rd Avenue and Speer Boulevard will be closed for several hours overnight on Monday, June 12, to install part of the the new cantilever sign structures. Ramp closures will occur after 8 p.m. and reopen before 5:30 a.m.
All work is weather-dependent and the schedule is subject to change. Detours
- Sunday, June 18: Westbound I-70 will be closed from Federal Boulevard to North Harlan Street (11 pm. to 5 a.m. Monday, June 19)
To detour around this closure, through traffic will be directed to exit I-70 at northbound I-25 (exit 274), travel north on I-25 for 2.5 miles to westbound I-76 (exit 216B), travel west for six miles and merge onto I-70. The signed detour adds approximately four miles to the through traffic route. During the closure, on-ramps to westbound I-70 at Pecos Street and Federal Boulevard will be closed. Ramp traffic will be directed north on Federal Boulevard to access the signed detour route along I-76. Ramp closures may begin as early as 10 p.m. A second westbound I-70 full closure may be necessary later in the week to dismantle a second sign structure. - Monday, June 19: Northbound I-25 will be closed from Colfax Avenue to Speer Boulevard (11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 20)
To detour around this closure, through traffic will exit northbound I-25 at Colfax Avenue (exit 210A), travel west (left) for 0.5 mile, turn right on northbound Federal Boulevard for 2.7 miles, turn right to merge onto eastbound I-70 and continue for 1.7 miles to northbound I-25 (exit 274). The signed detour adds approximately two miles to the through detour route. During the closure, on-ramps to northbound I-25 at 8th Avenue/Wyandot Street, Stadium Circle, Colfax Avenue and 23rd Avenue will be closed. Ramp traffic will be directed west to access the signed detour route Federal Boulevard. Ramp closures may begin as early as 10 p.m. A second northbound full closure may be necessary later in the week to dismantle a second sign structure.
