County Celebrates Affordable Housing Apartment Complex Groundbreaking with Delwest

Adams County’s Community and Economic Development Department celebrated the groundbreaking of the affordable housing Baker School Apartments complex. The groundbreaking was hosted by the project developer Delwest on Tuesday, Dec. 19.

Located at 3555 W. 64th Ave. in unincorporated Adams County, the Baker School Apartments complex will consist of 142 one-, two-, and three-bedroom affordable housing units identified as a need in the county’s Balanced Housing Plan. In addition to housing, community partners, including the Adams County Housing Authority, Growing Home, St. Anthony Hospital, and Red Rocks Community College, will provide services such as after-school programs, financial planning assistance, and pop-up medical and dental screenings.

“Affordable housing is a major priority in the county and, along with Delwest and our other community partners, Baker School Apartments will help so many families with their housing needs,” said Eva J. Henry, chair of the Board of County Commissioners. “This project demonstrates the county’s support of affordable housing initiatives and building communities with services that enhance the quality of life for families living there.”

The project received over $1.1 million in funding in Adams County Housing and Urban Development funds, including $650,000 in HOME Investment Partnerships Program funds and $500,000 from Community Development Block Grant funds.

Adams County completed a Housing Needs Assessment in 2017. One of the goals identified in the assessment is to reduce the affordability gap with housing costs and incomes, especially for renters. The Baker School Apartments project supports the objective of providing affordable rental housing and other essential services to residents who are extremely cost-burdened.
