DENVER - Today, Governor Polis, as directed by President Biden, ordered flags to fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset for 30 days, starting on the day of former President Carter’s passing, December 29, including a National Day of Mourning on January 9th, to honor the life and service of James Earl Carter, the 39th President of the United States.
“Today, as America begins to mourn the death of Former President Jimmy Carter I encourage Coloradans to join in honoring his 100 remarkable years of life, service, and leadership. we must continue to further the ideals that Former President Carter believed in, including deep compassion and protecting human rights and dignity,” said Colorado Governor Jared Polis.
Riverdale Animal Shelter Free Adoption Event
Riverdale Animal Shelter, like many shelters in the Denver Metro area, has been taking in a higher number of animals this year. To help more adoptable pets at their shelter find loving homes, adoption fees will be waived for pets six months and older Friday, July 1, and Saturday, July 2.

Celebrated Colorado grower Bob Sakata, 96, died June 7. Bob was a pillar in the community of Brighton and a long time farmer in the area.

Noel Bernal Appointed as Adams County Manager
At a special public hearing on Friday, June 3, the Adams County Board of Commissioners appointed Noel Bernal as County Manager.
Bernal comes from the City of Brownsville, Texas, where he has served as City Manager since 2018. He will start with the county on Monday, Aug. 8.

DENVER — Today, Governor Jared Polis ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff beginning immediately until sunset, July 9, 2022 as a mark of respect for the victims of the acts of violence perpetrated on July 4, 2022 by a gunman at a 4th of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois as proclaimed by President Biden.

Finalists Named for County Manager Position
The Board of County Commissioners has selected two finalists for the County Manager position. The two finalists are:
- Jody Andrews, Interim City Manager, City of Westminster, CO
- Noel Bernal, City Manager, City of Brownsville, TX
Recruitment has been underway since March for the new County Manager and will conclude in the coming weeks. The two finalists will complete interviews next week.
We will provide information on the new County Manager after the process has been completed.
More Than $1 Million in Scholarships Awarded to County Students
Fifty-eight Adams County high school students were awarded scholarships totaling more than $1 million on Tuesday, May 17, through the Adams County Scholarship Fund. Adams County Commissioners introduced the Scholarship Fund in 2016, making this the seventh group of recipients, in partnership with the Colorado Department of Higher Education's Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative.

DENVER — Governor Jared Polis ordered flags to be flown at half-staff beginning immediately and return to full staff at sunset on Monday, May 16, 2022 as a mark of respect and remembrance of the one million American lives lost to COVID-19 as proclaimed by President Biden.

Lauren Alaina, with special guest Jordan Fletcher, will be heading to the Adams County Fair, United Power Grandstand, 9755 Henderson Rd., Brighton, on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 8 p.m. for a free concert. Adams County will offer free recycling for live Christmas trees after the holiday season. Residents may drop off their Christmas trees Sunday, Dec. 29, through Sunday, Jan. 12, from sunrise to sunset, at Riverdale Regional Park, 9755 Henderson Rd., Brighton. Signs will direct residents to the drop-off site. Please remove all lights, ornaments, and decor. Please note: tree limbs, yard waste, or trees from commercial operations will not be accepted.
