DENVER - Today, Governor Polis, as directed by President Biden, ordered flags to fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset for 30 days, starting on the day of former President Carter’s passing, December 29, including a National Day of Mourning on January 9th, to honor the life and service of James Earl Carter, the 39th President of the United States.
“Today, as America begins to mourn the death of Former President Jimmy Carter I encourage Coloradans to join in honoring his 100 remarkable years of life, service, and leadership. we must continue to further the ideals that Former President Carter believed in, including deep compassion and protecting human rights and dignity,” said Colorado Governor Jared Polis.
First Three Positive for COVID-19 in Adams County
Three presumptive COVID-19 positive cases in Adams County have been reported, representing the first cases in the county. The cases include a woman in her 30s from Brighton with uncertain exposure, a woman in her 30s from Northglenn who is hospitalized and had no travel history, and a woman in her 60s from Westminster with travel history.
Adams County Declares State of Emergency
Due to the continued spread of COVID-19 in Colorado, and two confirmed cases in Adams County, the Board of County Commissioners has declared a state of emergency for Adams County.
Planned Maintenance at Suncor's Commerce City Refinery
On Monday, March 9, Suncor began planned maintenance in Plant 2 of its Commerce City refinery. This work includes taking some operating units out of service, performing the maintenance, and bringing the units back online. The work is scheduled to last approximately two weeks. Suncor expects periods of increased flaring as it shuts down the units over the next couple of days. Similarly, Suncor expects periods of increased flaring toward the end of the maintenance period as the units come back online.

Adams Hollow Disc Golf Weekday Closure
The Adams Hollow Disc Golf Course at Riverdale Regional Park will be closed on weekdays (Monday-Friday) starting next week until early April 2020 due to construction around the area and safety concerns near the course. The course will remain open on the weekends unless project impacts deem it necessary to close the course. In addition, there may be slight disruptions in play at Riverdale Golf Courses during construction. Thank you for your compliance with this closure.

Adams County Ranks Second in Nation for Employment Growth
In a report just released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Adams County ranked second out of the largest 356 counties in the nation in employment growth in the third quarter of 2019.
Assessor’s Satellite Office at Human Services Center Closing
Effective Thursday, Feb. 27, at 4:30 p.m., the Assessor’s Satellite Office at HSC, 11860 Pecos St., Westminster, will close. All operations will return to the main office at the Government Center, 4430 S. Adams County Pkwy., Brighton. The Assessor’s office can be reached via email or phone: 720.523.6038.
Adams County Hosts Panel for Foster Parents
In 2019, Adams County became the first county to host a foster parent panel in Colorado, leading the way for other counties to provide similar panels. The purpose of the panel was to help foster parents better understand the court system.
Suncor to Conduct Fire Extinguisher Training
Suncor’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) will be conducting fire extinguisher training on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from approximately 1 to 3 p.m.
The fire extinguisher training will take place at the Plant 1 fire training grounds on the western edge of the Commerce City refinery property. During the training, there will likely be flames and smoke produced. Local stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and local government officials have been notified.
Adams County will offer free recycling for live Christmas trees after the holiday season. Residents may drop off their Christmas trees Sunday, Dec. 29, through Sunday, Jan. 12, from sunrise to sunset, at Riverdale Regional Park, 9755 Henderson Rd., Brighton. Signs will direct residents to the drop-off site. Please remove all lights, ornaments, and decor. Please note: tree limbs, yard waste, or trees from commercial operations will not be accepted.
