The Adams County Colorado Master Gardener program is accepting applications for Fall 2018 night classes. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. at Crescent Grange, 7901 W. 120th Ave., Broomfield, from Sept. 18–Nov. 29. Contact the Colorado State University Extension office in Adams County at 303.637.8100 or email Cassey Anderson for more information or an application. The deadline to apply is Friday, Aug. 24. Applicants must go through an interview process and background check, so don’t delay! There is also a non-volunteer option for a higher course fee.
Vasquez PEL Study
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), in coordination with Commerce City, Adams County and the City and County of Denver, is conducting a Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study for the Vasquez/I-270 interchange and Vasquez Boulevard between 52nd Avenue on the south and 64th Avenue on the north.
New Adams County Animal Shelter Named
Honoring the history and heritage of the region, the Adams County Board of Commissioners today announced Riverdale Animal Shelter as the name of the county's new facility scheduled to begin construction in 2018.
"This exciting project will not only carry the historic Riverdale name, but the design of the building also connects to the agricultural heritage of the area," said Board Chair Eva Henry.
Eastbound I-76 Overnight Closures - Aug. 27 and 28
For two consecutive nights (Sunday, Aug. 27 and Monday, Aug. 28), crews will temporarily close eastbound Interstate 76 at 96th Avenue to all traffic overnight in order to install an overhead sign structure and place large sign panels. All eastbound motorists will detour off I-76 at 96th Avenue (exit 11) starting at 10 p.m. Eastbound I-76 will reopen by 5:30 a.m. the following morning. All work is weather-dependent and the schedule is subject to change.
Clear the Shelters Event
The Adams County Animal Shelter is participating in the Clear the Shelters event on Saturday, Aug. 19. This community-driven, nationwide adoption event seeks to match deserving animals with loving, permanent homes. Adoption fees on Aug. 19 will be waived. The shelter, 10705 Fulton St., Brighton, will be open from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Stop by to take home your new furry best friend!
Planning Partners Conference
Adams County is hosting the 2017 Planning Partners Conference on Friday, Sept. 22, at the Government Center, 4430 S. Adams County Parkway, Brighton. The conference will focus on collaboration building, idea exchange, and networking between Adams County, municipalities in and around the county, neighboring counties, and private sector stakeholders, such as developers, realtors, engineers, and architects.
Colorado Master Gardener Fall 2017 Program
The Colorado Master Gardener program in Adams County is accepting applications for fall 2017 evening classes. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6–9 p.m., Sept. 26–Nov. 30. Master Gardeners are part of the outreach program of Colorado State University Extension; a statewide network including Master Gardeners and CSU faculty and staff who provide lifelong educational programs for all Coloradans in their local communities using research-based information.
Commissioner O'Dorisio Receives Vets Helping Vets Award
Adams County Commissioner Steve O’Dorisio received the Real Heroes Award from the non-profit organization Vets Helping Vets for his service to the organization to benefit veterans’ causes.
George Horgan, the president and founder of Vets Helping Vets, said O’Dorisio has a history of focusing on the needs of veterans.

Suncor to Conduct Live Fire Training
NOTICE: Suncor ERT will conduct live fire training on Thursday, Aug. 10, from approximately 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. The live fire training will be conducted at the Plant 1 Fire Training grounds. During the training, there will likely be large flames and thick smoke produced. In the event of an actual emergency, all ERT training will cease and proper alarms will be sounded.
