2017 Sean May Memorial Run/Walk

The 9th Annual Sean May Memorial Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, May 13, 9 a.m., at Barr Lake State Park in Brighton. The run/walk is held every year to honor Sean May, a chief deputy district attorney with the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office who was shot to death in his backyard in 2008 when he was returning home from work.

During his seven years of service in Adams County, May served in a variety of assignments, including a rotation in the Child Victim Unit, where he pursued justice for children who had been physically and/or sexually abused. Sean served as the chief of the County Court Unit at the time he was murdered. May always stressed the importance of acting responsibly, including treating victims, the community, defendants and the courts with dignity and respect.

The annual race is organized by the 17th Judicial District Access to Justice Committee.  There will be a 9-mile run, a 5K Individual or Family Fun Run/Walk, and a Kids’ Fun Run. Race Registration is $35/person from March 1-May 11; and $50/person on race day. Online registration will close on May 11. Fees include entrance into Barr Lake State Park, race registration fee, race shirt, parking, entry into prize drawing and professional timing by Hallucination Sports.

There are many event and in-kind sponsorships opportunities available for local businesses and organizations. We are hoping for 300 participants this year so we can raise $10,000 to support the 17th Judicial District Access to Justice programs such as the Adams County and Broomfield County Self Help Resource Centers and the 17th Judicial District Specialty Court programs (Adams County Drug Court, Adams County Court for Veterans, Family Treatment Court, Juvenile Treatment Court, Truancy court programs).
