As part of its COVID-19 emergency response and recovery strategy, Adams County has expanded its free COVID-19 testing program to include new locations and rapid testing exclusively for Adams and Jefferson County residents who do not have health insurance or are experiencing homelessness. Family members are also invited to be tested. Testing sites for community members with insurance can be found here: tchd.org/827/Testing-for-COVID-19.
Adams County is offering two new testing locations, with hopes to expand to more locations in the coming months. The two locations and times are:
- The MAC Recreation Center
3295 W. 72nd Ave., Westminster
Thursdays, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., Aug. 6, 13, 20, 27
- Former Adams County Human Services Building
7190 Colorado Blvd., Commerce City
Fridays, 2 – 7 p.m., Aug. 7, 14, 21, 28 (additional dates may be added to this location)
Registration is not required and there is no cost for the rapid test for uninsured residents. Individuals will be served on a first-come, first-served basis each Thursday and Friday during the five hours. Results will be provided within 15 minutes of the test.
“As we continue to identify and implement initiatives to assist residents across the county during this pandemic, we are grateful for partners like the City of Westminster as we collaborate to serve our communities,” said Adams County Commissioner, Charles “Chaz” Tedesco. “This partnership will provide necessary testing for those in our community who need it the most but may not have access due to lack of insurance.”
The testing sites will use the new COVID-19 nasal swab Rapid Test, and patients will receive a positive/negative result within 15 minutes. The entire testing process can take up to one hour to complete.
Advanced Urgent Care is the healthcare provider participating in the program. Their Rapid Test procedure has been approved by the FDA, Tri-County Health Department, and the Jefferson County Health Department.
“The Westminster community has asked us to find ways to help people with COVID-19 testing, and we’re proud to be partnering with Adams County, along with healthcare and nonprofit organizations to make that possible,” said Westminster Mayor Herb Atchison. “We are especially focused on providing testing for individuals who do not have health insurance benefits at this time because the needs are so significant across our community,” he added.
The mobile testing site is especially designed for people who have COVID-19 symptoms or have been exposed to COVID-19. A person does not need to be symptomatic, and family members are also invited to be tested.
Testing will be available to Adams and Jefferson County residents through the end of November. Testing sites may change depending on the needs of the community. Updates can be found on our Response & Recovery website.
In addition, laundry and shower services will be available for those experiencing homelessness at the Irving Street Library – 7392 Irving St., Westminster – around the corner from the Westminster testing location – Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., weather permitting, through October.
Showers are offered on a first-come, first-served basis with the last shower at 1:30 p.m. There are six washers and dryers which can do up to 30 loads. Washing and drying a load takes about an hour. Visitors can drop off up to two 10-pound bags of dirty clothes and bedding. Laundry services are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Clear Creek Corridor Master Plan Community Events
Clear Creek runs approximately seven miles through southwest Adams County from Sheridan Blvd. to the South Platte River Confluence. Adams County currently owns approximately 178 acres of open space adjacent to Clear Creek. A regional trail and several trail access points have been developed through this corridor, but currently few other amenities are located along the corridor.

Suncor to Conduct Live Fire Training
NOTICE: Suncor ERT will conduct live fire training on Thursday, April 20, from approximately 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The live fire training will be conducted at the Plant 1 Fire Training grounds. During the training, there will likely be large flames and thick smoke produced. In the event of an actual emergency, all ERT training will cease and proper alarms will be sounded. Have Yard or Garden Questions? Ask a Master Gardener
The Colorado State University (CSU) Extension Master Gardeners in Adams County are ready to answer your home yard and garden questions. Master Gardeners are in the office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from April through October, and can be found at community gardens and garden centers throughout the season. Master Gardeners can answer questions on lawns, vegetable gardens, trees, houseplants, etc. Specially trained Master Gardeners from our Tree Team are also available for home visits to assess tree health for a small fee.

CDOT Announces Lane and Ramp Closures on Westbound I-76 near US Highway 85
On Monday night, April 17, motorists should expect lane and ramp closures on westbound Interstate 76 near US Highway 85 while crews shift travel lanes onto new permanent pavement placed during Phase 1 of the I-76 at US 85 reconstruction project. The southbound US 85 direct access to westbound I-76 will be closed at 104th Avenue from 9 p.m. on Monday, April 17, until 5 a.m. Tuesday, April 18. A temporary full closure is necessary to move traffic onto the new alignment. Crews will also install an overhead sign structure over southbound US 85 during the full closure.

Community Needs Assessment
Adams County Human Services has partnered with Joining Vision and Action to gather feedback from Adams County residents to help us better serve our communities. Joining Vision and Action will be in our communities and at various locations collecting feedback, in addition to conducting a series of focus groups. We would like to hear from as many residents as possible.

Board of Commissioners Accepts County Manager’s Resignation
The Adams County Board of Commissioners accepted the resignation of County Manager Todd Leopold on Tuesday, April 11. Leopold was originally hired in 2012 as a deputy county administrator before accepting the county manager position in 2013.

County Sets Seven Town Hall Meetings for 2017
The Adams County Board of Commissioners has set dates for seven town hall meetings, including two telephone town halls, in 2017. The meetings are open to all county residents.
The first of the meetings will be a telephone town hall on Tuesday, April 11, at 7 p.m. Visit www.adcogov.org/townhall to sign up to receive a call to join the town hall meeting when it begins. During the call, participants can engage commissioners with questions or simply listen to the conversation while taking part in poll questions.

Adams County Director Honored by Society of Women Engineers
Jeff Maxwell, Adams County Transportation director, was honored on a national level by the Society of Women Engineers, receiving their Integrity Award for Male Supporter of the Year. In addition to increasing the number of women engineers being hired, Maxwell appointed the county’s first female engineering manager who oversees a team of women engineers who manage the county’s Transportation Capital Improvement Program.
