Did you capture a great photo in Adams County? It could be featured on an Adams County traffic signal box or in our Adams County publications and website.
This competition is open to all Adams County residents, and photographers of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. We are looking for beautiful images captured within the county with an emphasis on landscape and urban settings. You can submit as many high-resolution photographs as you would like. Photographs captured at seven megapixels or larger are required.
Submit your photos and/or questions to [email protected]. All entries are due by Sunday, July 10. The photo contest winner will receive an iPad for a prize.

County Will Appeal Retail Marijuana Tax to Supreme Court
Adams County Commissioners have directed County Attorney Heidi Miller to appeal a December 15, 2016 Colorado Court of Appeals opinion to the Colorado Supreme Court. Reversing a Sept. 23, 2016 Adams County District Court decision, the Court of Appeals issued an opinion in favor of three municipalities ruling that, despite voter approval in all cities, the county does not have the authority to impose a special sales tax on retail marijuana.
Pending the definitive ruling through the appeal process, the county will continue to collect the three percent tax on retail marijuana.

Board of Commissioners Ratifies Making Connections Plan for Southwest Adams County
The Board of County Commissioners ratified the Making Connections in Southwest Adams County Planning and Implementation Plan with a unanimous vote in public hearing on Tuesday, Dec. 6, paving the way for implementation after the county Planning Commission adopted the plan in October.
Adams County Repeats Successful Christmas Tree Recycling
Adams County will offer free recycling for live Christmas trees after the holiday season. Residents may drop off their Christmas trees from Tuesday, Dec. 27, through Monday, Jan. 16, at Adams County Regional Park, 9755 Henderson Road, Brighton, from sunrise to sunset. Signs will direct residents to the self drop-off site.
Ornaments, tinsel, garlands, flock, nails, and stands must be removed before trees are dropped off. There is a limit of two trees per family. Please note: tree limbs, yard waste, or trees from commercial operations will not be accepted at the Regional Park.
Gov. Hickenlooper Orders Flags Lowered to Honor John Glenn
Friday, Dec. 9 - Gov. Hickenlooper today ordered flags be flown at half-staff on all public buildings statewide beginning immediately until sunset on the day of interment, in honor of John Glenn, and as proclaimed by President Barack Obama.
Adams County Adopts $450 Million Budget for 2017
The Adams County Board of Commissioners adopted the $450 million 2017 budget at a public hearing on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
New Bennett Motor Vehicle Location
Monday's ribbon cutting with Commissioner Jan Pawlowski and Clerk & Recorder, Stan Martin, marked the opening of the new Motor Vehicle location in Bennett - 355 S. 1st St., 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. "We're grateful for the partnership with the Town of Bennett, and we look forward to serving the growing communities in the eastern portion of the county at this new location," said Martin.

Gov. John Hickenlooper today ordered flags lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide on Wednesday, Dec. 7, in honor of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, 2016, and as proclaimed by President Barack Obama.
Adams County Hires David Ball as Facilities Management Director
Adams County has selected David Ball as the new Facilities Management Director. Ball will oversee the department responsible for new construction and renovation, building repair and maintenance, environmental services, landscaping, equipment repair, preventative maintenance, solid waste pick up, and recycling.
“We’re excited to get someone with David’s talents and experience to lead our Facilities Management team,” said County Manager Todd Leopold. “David is the best candidate to handle the responsibilities of our current facilities, as well as those under construction.”
CDOT Announces Delays and Ramp Closures on Westbound I-76
On Sunday, Dec. 4 starting at 8 p.m., motorists should expect delays overnight on westbound Interstate 76 while crews shift travel lanes onto new detour pavement. Westbound I-76 will be reduced to a single lane from 8 p.m. on Sunday until 5:00 a.m. on Monday morning.
Crews will temporarily close the westbound I-76 off-ramp to 96th Avenue (exit 11) starting at 8 p.m. on Sunday in order to move temporary barrier and restripe the highway. All off-ramp traffic will be directed one mile west to the 88th Avenue off-ramp (exit 10).
