Suncor to Conduct Live Fire Training at Commerce City Refinery
NOTICE: On Thursday, Aug. 9, the Suncor ERT will conduct live fire training at the Plant 1 Fire Training grounds. The training will begin around 8 a.m. and will last throughout the day. During the training, there will be large flames and thick smoke produced. In the event of an actual emergency, all ERT training will cease and proper alarms will be sounded.
In addition, on Friday, Aug. 10, the Suncor Emergency Response Team will practice deploying oil containment booms in a simulated release scenario on Sand Creek north of the Plant 1 facility in Commerce City. No oils, chemicals, or other materials will be placed into the river, with the exception of rope and boom which will be removed at the completion of the exercise. Personnel will likely simulate the response beginning after 8 a.m. and anticipate being on site for the day. Suncor will likely perform two boom deployments: one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
