Senior and Disabled Veterans Exemption Programs
Have a parent or friend who is a senior citizen (65+ as of January 1) or a disabled veteran? They may be eligible for property tax exemptions through the Assessor’s and Treasurer’s offices. The programs allow 50% of the first $200,000 of actual property value to be exempted for qualifying individuals. The exempted property tax is then paid by the state. The deadlines are fast approaching: July 1 for disabled veterans and July 15 for senior citizens.
Suncor to Conduct Fire Extinguisher Training
NOTICE: Suncor will conduct Fire Extinguisher Training on Tuesday, June 4, at the Suncor Fire Training Center from 1 - 3 p.m. The training will be performed at the Plant 1 Fire Training Grounds. During the training sessions there will likely be flames and smoke produced. In the event of an actual emergency, all training will cease and proper alarms will be sounded.
Recording Department Now Offers Passport Services
The Adams County Recording Department now accepts passport applications on behalf of the U.S. Department of State for any U.S. citizen. Services include processing passport applications and taking passport photos.

Gov. Polis orders flags lowered to honor the victims of the Virginia Beach tragedy
June 1, 2019 - DENVER — Gov. Jared Polis today ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide immediately, until sunset on June 4, to honor the victims of the tragedy in Virginia Beach, and as proclaimed by President Donald J. Trump.
More Than $1 Million in Scholarships Awarded to County Students
Sixty Adams County high school students were awarded scholarships totaling more than $1 million on Thursday, May 30, through the Adams County Scholarship Fund. Adams County Commissioners introduced the Scholarship Fund in 2016 in partnership with the Colorado Department of Higher Education's Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative.
I-25 North Express Lanes Project
On Monday night and Thursday night, June 3 and June 6, full ramp closures will take place on the northbound and southbound 120th Avenue on-ramps. Closures on the north- and southbound on-ramps will take place both nights from 9:30 p.m.-5:30 a.m.
Detour Routes:
Northbound - Detour via Washington Street to 136th Avenue
Southbound - Detour via Huron Street to 104th Avenue
CDOT Project Update - I-25 and I-76/I-70 Interchange Bridge Repairs
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and contractor, ABCO Contracting of Denver, began making repairs to 12 bridges at the I-25/I-76 and I-25/I-70 interchanges on April 14. This repair project is designed to improve the structural integrity of the bridges at two of the state’s busiest interstate interchanges, and to support CDOT's Whole System - Whole Safety initiative. Completion is scheduled for October 2019.
Adams County Wins NAHRO Award for Housing Initiatives
Adams County won the Colorado National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) Commissioners Award for work on Homes for Hope and 7401 Broadway, the former Child and Family Services Center. The Board of Commissioners recognized county staff involved at public hearing earlier today.
Elections Department Releases Findings of Third-Party Audit Re: Misplaced Ballots
Adams County Clerk & Recorder Josh Zygielbaum hired a third-party company, Eide Bailly, to perform an independent audit of the misplaced ballots from the 2018 General Election.
The report is complete and absolves the county and their ballot printing vendor, K&H Integrated Print Solutions, of any misconduct.
Suncor Commerce City Experienced Operational Upset
At about 1 p.m. today, May 24, the Suncor Commerce City Refinery’s Plant 2 FCC unit experienced an operational upset. The upset resulted in a subsequent abnormal emission out of the top of the FCC unit’s stack. They are also experiencing expected increased flaring as a result of this incident. Feed has been pulled from the unit and the operations team is in the process of bringing the units down. Suncor has made the required regulatory notifications, is investigating the root cause of the incident, and determining a path forward.
